You only have to glance at the skyline across Manchester to see that the construction sector is thriving. But could an industry-wide skills shortage be about to bring Manchester's boom to a shuddering halt?

As well as an ageing workforce, there is a distinct lack of young talent choosing to enter the construction industry, resulting in a worrying skills shortage within the sector.

Greater Manchester has ambitious plans for growth over the next five years in areas like housing and enhancing transport networks in the region. The construction and engineering sectors are vital in realising these plans, as well as for the recovery of the economy nationwide. We must act now to help close the skills gap and future proof the construction sector. 

There has never been a more significant time, in recent years if not decades, for the need for excellent construction and engineering experts and degree apprenticeships offer a cost-effective way to upskill your staff whilst they are still working, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge from university to the workplace on an ongoing basis.

Please note: Funding depends on the size of your organisation. Still, it will either be fully funded by your apprenticeship levy or via co-investment with the government (who will fund 95% of the training costs).
