Biography
Dr Paul Coates RIBA MCAIT is an architect and BIM Specialist with over 30 years professional experience in industry adapting technologies for the use in architectural practice. Projects undertaken range from small refurbishment projects to large infrastructure projects. Experience has been gained working in the UK and internationally working for central government and private practice. Recent work has included the development of BIM methodologies and applications. As an academic Paul has been responsible for running the ADT programme and is a module leader on the MSc in BIM and Integrated Design. Roles on the UG Architecture programme has included module leader on the Construction Technology in Architecture module and module leader on the Performance and Integrated Design Module. I have also been supervisor on 10 Phds.

I have played a significant role in the development of new programmes and new modules both at graduate and postgraduate level. I have been module leader on the multidisciplinary project module and technology 2 with over 250 students. I played a key part in the development and delivery of new modules for the BSc in Architecture programme leading to its validation by the RIBA. I also contributed to new modules on the Masters of Architecture programme. I have also been in discussion with Bahrain about the development of their Architecture Programme. A also had considerable input in the writing of the BSc in Digital Construction. As program leader for 6 years have also made a significant improvement adding to the materials and quality of delivery of 12 of the 18 modules on the ADT programme contributing to all four modes of delivery. this impulse has led to the successful re certification of the programme and increased recruitment of the ADT programme to 50 level 4 students this year. I have also supported other members of teaching staff teaching on ten of their modules. I have made a significant contribution to the MSc BIM in Digital Environments programme. Significant new material covering new subject matter has been created on a range of the modules and video recordings also have been provided. This material has been shared with four other programmes where it is delivered. I have also run 15 sessions this year to further educate and inform PhD students. A major effort has been made to make the teaching experience authentic and aligned to industry expectations. Wrote all module briefs for HPL staff. I have also been on the PARP committee and also am on the Academic Misconduct Panel.
