With nearly a decade in the charity sector, Seren Hughes leads operations at Alike, a charity dedicated to ending loneliness caused by cancer through their pioneering cancer support app. She has worked extensively in public health, peer support, and research for policy change, graduating from the University of Salford with a First-Class BA (Hons) in English Literature and currently completing an MSc in Public Health.

A former Peer Researcher with the Young Women’s Trust, she has contributed to vital research on gender and economic inequality, and her work with the NHS has focused on patient advocacy and improving cancer support services. Seren’s passion for early detection and awareness stems from her own cancer diagnosis at 19, which led her to work with charities focused on educating and supporting people affected by cancer. Now at Alike, she combines her lived experience with strategic leadership to build inclusive, community-driven support for those affected by cancer.

Seren was a runner-up for The Dean’s Award at the 2018 Create Student Awards, and we are delighted to be welcoming her back as a presenter for our 10th anniversary edition.
